What’s Inner City Sailing?
Inner City Sailing is a unique scheme that gives young people from inner cities FREE access to Royal Yachting Association training courses. It is available to 11 to 16-year-olds from all schools, academies and youth centres throughout the UK.
Who’s behind it?
Inner City Sailing has been set up by Liverpool-based company 7 Best Invest Ltd, who will donate 5% of their annual profits to the charity. They already donate 5% to the Prince’s Trust.
What are its aims?
Inner City Sailing is intended to act as a catalyst for inner city youth achievement and celebrate the potential of young people on Merseyside and throughout the UK. It is hoped that it will provide a lasting benefit to local communities.
Ken Metcalf, 7BestInvest founder, says: "Hopefully Inner City Sailing will go some way to shedding the image that sailing is something of an elitist sport - it is in fact affordable, huge fun and a great skill to learn. We want, in other words, to take the snotty out of yachty."
